A Blessing Way is a ceremony celebrating a woman with child. It is celebrated with women of her choosing-woman who believe and care about her. The new mother is blessed with gifts and wishes by those who come to honor her. Blessing Ways can take many forms depending on the wishes of the mother. Each of the young women participating in Everyday Miracles will have the option of having a Blessing Way held for her. Our first Blessing Way was held on February 10, 2004. The group made a necklace for Suzanne. As each person placed a bead on the necklace, they told her what that bead represented. It could be a story of birth, their wishes for the new mom and her baby, advice for birthing or mothering. Many told her how they see her- strong, capable and a wonderful mother. Ashton
Jerome was born on February 24, 2004 weighing in at 7 pounds 8 ounces.
His overjoyed mother was wearing the necklace
her community
made for her. The necklace will now turn into a “nursing necklace” for
Ashton to gaze at and play with while nursing. The necklace carries
all of our love and wishes for their future.
