I am the mother of Lindsey and Lewis, wife of Brian, and soon to be grandma for the first time.

My professional history is working as a nurse, first in a nursing home for 15 years, and then at Unity hospital.  At the hospital, I worked as a nurse on the postpartum unit, pediatrics, newborn nursery, and GYN surgical.  What a great learning experience this was!  This is where my love for the birth process first blossomed.  I have now been working as a doula for over four years.

I also have had the pleasure of being greatly involved in the formation of the Unity doula program and developement of the handbook, mentoring the new doulas, and acting as co-liasion to the program for the last 2+ years.  This has been a great benefit to my learning experience.  The incredible things that I have learned working with these doctors and nurses are unobtainable through any other avenues.  Working with the teen mothers has taught me a tremendous amount of patience and understanding, as well as developing in me an enormous amount of respect for the courage these brave young women bring to the world.

After attending hundreds of births, I have learned the great needs of women.  I feel very strongly about the need for women to support other women and the awesome power behind giving to others.  We must teach our teen mothers how to nuture by nuturing them, how to love by loving them, and how to gain strength by empowering them.  In order for our future to be bright, we must unite to light the way.
