TO THE CHILDREN

You are the most important person in the world. You are promise. You are possibility. You are hope when our hope has dimmed. You are joy when our hearts are heavy. In you we see the world as we dream that it could be.

Remain excited at the discovery of a leaf; it tells us that there is still beauty in the small, when our eyes have gotten too focused on the great.

Play with each other on playgrounds; it shows us that all people of all backgrounds can meet each other with open hearts.

Do whatever it is that your heart would have you do. Laugh, cry, stomp your feet in anger, dawdle in the morning, resist bedtime at night. Allow us to see how important the moment is to you, and to share, for an instant, the importance of that moment. For you remind us what it is to be alive.

Keep laughing and giggling when you are surprised and delighted; it offers our ears the music of grace.

Keep talking to the dogs and the cats and the pigeons and the ducks; it reminds us that the spirit is present in all living things.

You command us to be strong, you remind us to be gentle. In your eyes we see the eyes of all children, and, for an instant, we understand what we have in common with all mothers and fathers at all times in all the places on the earth.

You are strong beyond your wildest imagination. Your goodnight kisses can stop an army, your tears can melt the hardest heart.

For you have the gift of innocence. You have the gift of dreams. When we see you laughing and playing, our spirits take wing. When we lift you and hold you, we are consecrating a world of hope.

A Quote from a Participant

“Gretchen was a great aspect of my birth. Having her there was as important as having my husband there . Her helping hand made the experience that much more special.”.

Suzanne Case
Participant and Past Support Group Volunteer

Have you ever had that special friend or someone who was always there for you ready to lend a helping hand or just listen to you? To me, that special friend is a group called Everyday Miracles. When I found out I was pregnant, I was already three months along. My relationship with everyone in my life changed, leaving me feeling alone and scared of what was to come. Then, a friend of my mom’s told me of a group called Everyday Miracles that supported young women in my situation (not married, young moms, pregnant, and other similar issues). I met with Debby Prudhomme, one of the founders, and immediately knew this was the right place to be.

We had a little group (now big) that got together every other week. I couldn’t believe how caring and reliable everyone was. Someone was always there for me. Debby became my doula and helped me throughout my pregnancy. She was an angel, and I couldn’t have done it without her.

We have visitors come to our group to teach us breathing techniques and childbirth classes. Without Everyday Miracles and Debby, my son and I would not be in the place we are today. I still go to group now and am very excited that we are growing and reaching out to more and more people. No one should be alone and scared during a pregnancy or raising a child. In this day and age, we need to be there for each other. Everyday Miracles is just that, there for those who need that special someone, that helping hand, that good listener.”

NOTE: This young mom has now gained full-time employment enabling her to support herself and her son. She has acquired reliable transportation and is actively involved in the program, helping other new mothers.

Congratulations Angela!!

This determined Mom receives her diploma. She took the bus to school with her seven children every day! She is due to deliver twin boys in August.

A Letter from a Participant

I would like to say a few words about Everyday Miracles. I first want to say "thank you" for all your help, support, words of wisdom, courage and strength. Every time I wanted to give up, you were right there, telling me "you can do it, you’re almost there". I wish I had known about doulas when my first child was born, instead of my last.

I hope the program never gives up on their goals or dreams. No amount of money in the world could pay for my doula. To me, they are like angels from up above.

Welcome Michael!

After a couple of false starts Michael made his entry into this world on October 22, 2004.  He didn't waste any time either!  Debby, Jen's doula got her in the tub shortly after arriving at the hospital.  They made a quick departure from the tub to welcome Michael!  Jen did an amazing job with no medications.   Such a sweet baby!

Welcome Nathan!

August 31, 2004 brought Nathan into the world after an awesome birth by an incredible mom.  She was so calm and centered that at times I wondered if her labor had stalled!  The Nurses and Doctor were amazed at this beautiful, med free birth.  Naomi was supported by her mom, grandmother and her doula Debby.  Welcome Nathan!

Welcome Hunter Steven!

Hunter Steven arrived on July 13, 2004 weighing in at 6 lbs. 12 ounces.  He was born by a repeat cesarean and was welcomed by his Mom, Dad, two sisters and brother.   The family is doing well and is thrilled to have him in their lives!

Welcome Angel Marie!

After a couple of disappointing trips to Labor and Delivery (we were sent home), Angel Marie arrived on July 7, 2004.  Once she decided to come, she didn’t waste much time.  She was greeted by two doulas, her dad and grandmother.  She weighed in at 6 lbs. 7 ounces.

Welcome Andrew Michael!

On the 12th of June, 20" baby Andrew Michael was born into the arms of Susan and her family, weighing in at 6 pounds-11 ounces.  Susan was amazing during the entire birth process.   The entire room welcomed this baby with tons of love.  Susan in doing great being a mom.  This little boy has grown so well in his mother's arms (since he likes to be held all the time).  Susan had two doula's in the room, Mary Williams and an apprentice doula, Monica.  Both doula's are so proud of Susan.

Welcome Chloe Grace!

On June 4th, 2004 another little miracle was brought into this world.  Her
name is Chloe Grace, weighing 8 pounds, 12 ounces.  She was welcomed into the world by her Mom and Dad, her grandma, and her aunt along with her doula Mary.  Her Mother Anna did an incredible job birthing her and we were all so proud to witness this amazing event.  Baby Chloe is breast feeding so well that she is now over 10 pounds at only 3 weeks old.  She has an incredible Mother!!!

Ella Marie, Ashton Jerome, and Starley Ray
in a recent visit back to Everyday Miracles!

Welcome Ella Marie!

Ella Marie joined us on Thursday, April 22, 2004 after a quick and easy birth. (At least those who witness this miracle thought so!)  She weighed in at 5 lbs. 10 oz. and was ready to eat the moment she arrived!

Ella Marie’s mother Amber has been part of Everyday Miracles support groups and Debby was her doula.   Debby arrived at the hospital about 9:00 am to find Amber laboring in the tub wearing the necklace we had made her at her Blessing Way.  Ella Marie arrived at 12:43 pm.  What a good, cooperative little gal!

Ella Marie was welcomed by her Mom, Grandmother, Dad and Debby. Welcome sweet baby!

Welcome Starley Ray!

On April 17th, 2004, we were so proud to welcome the new arrival of Starley
Ray!  Melissa did an amazing job bring this little girl into the world.  We arrived at the hospital with a cervix 6 centimeters & 100% efaced and a very calm mother.  Within 2 contractions, Melissa was 10 centimeters and ready to push.  We ran down the hall with Melissa in a bed hoping to get to a delivery room before the baby arrived.  We made it just in time to see Starley's birth!  Melissa had her mother by her side and her doula, Mary, along with friends and family standing to the side to witness this miracle.

Melissa did great accomplishing a drug free birth.  We are all so proud of her!   Melissa started to come to the support groups when she was four months pregnant and hardly showing.  We had a Blessingway for Melissa and made a beautiful casting of her belly.  She truley loved her pregnancy and has done everything she could to remember the wonder of it all.  She has proven to be an amazing mother already and she will continue to participate in our single mom support group.

Welcome Ashton Jerome!

Our first “official” Everyday Miracle occurred on February 24, 2004. Ashton Jerome was born to Suzanne and Harry weighing in at 7 lbs. 8 ounces. Debby was their doula and was there to welcome this beautiful baby into this world.

Suzanne participated in the Everyday Miracles support groups from the very start and Harry and Suzanne both took childbirth education classes through Everyday Miracles.

Harry and Suzanne brought Ashton to the support group to show him off and introduce him to the women who made her “birthing necklace” and supported them during this life changing event.
