Carolin

Carolin

As part of Hennepin Healthcare's on-call doula program, I strive to provide support, encouragement, and information to birthing families as they navigate the path of their birth journey. It is always an absolute honor to come alongside them in this beautifully challenging and unpredictable time, guiding them through various twists and turns as they work hard to welcome their baby.

I became a doula in 2006 and certified with DONA Intl and then Childbirth International. One of my passions as a doula is supporting VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), and I also teach the VBAC Basics class at Everyday Miracles.

Outside of doula work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, 3 kids, and 2 rescue dogs! I love trying out new recipes in the kitchen and being outdoors in nature.

Claudia

Claudia

My name is Claudia and I am a doula in the on-call partnership between Everyday Miracles and Hennepin Healthcare. I am also one of our Lactation Educators here at Everyday Miracles! I became drawn to birth-work after the birth of my second child, as I thought back through the support my doulas had given me.

Birth is such an important and transformative experience and I want to help every person to experience that in the most positive way for them. I believe birth is something our bodies were made to do, and that each birthing person is strong and capable of bringing their baby here. A successful and happy birth is defined differently by everyone. I feel my role as a doula is to support finding the information, education, and support to birth the way you want to. I am also just as convinced that our bodies were also made to feed our children if we so choose. I am very passionate about lactation and supporting parents and babies to get the best beginning.

I live with my husband and our three boys in Bloomington. Outside of birthwork, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, taking up new hobbies, gardening, playing with my kids, and spending time with my wonderful husband.

I believe every birthing person has this incredible power inside of them to transform into a mother/parent and join the collective ancestors who have gone before. I am attuned to a birthing person in this way, radically admiring as they learn from the embodiment of pregnancy and the birth journey. I try to bring a spirit of protection and connection into the birth space and truly am honored to support birthing people, babies and their birth teams.

I deeply believe in the wisdom and instincts inherent in a birthing person’s body and love to help accentuate those transformative resources.

I am grateful to have been a birth doula for over a decade and for all I have learned from every birth and every family.

Maria

Maria

Hello my name is Maria Varela, I am certified birth Doula through Commosesnse Childbirth Institute and trained in lactation, Certified Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) and Postpartum Doula. I was born and raised in Mexico, I'm fluent in Spanish, I'm mother of 4 outgrow children and happy grandma of five beautiful kids.

I have been working for non-profits since I graduated from college, my career
started in Mexico, I worked in remote communities in poverty as a community worker, that work experience changed my life and became a motivation to help and advocate for the less fortunate. I have a background in Early Childood Education and Child Development, I worked in Way to Grow as Family Advocate and Family Educator for 14 years.

My interest in childbirth sparked by curiosity, when I was a young girl and I found a book about childbirth and labor, it was flooded with amazing pictures, that opened my eyes to the true nature of childbirth, other big motivation was having my sister with me in two of my deliveries then I realized how important is having a birth support person in your labor journey. The pandemic was a time of many changes, with the encouragement of my doula friend Shamsa and seeing the high need for spanish speaking doulas in the latino community, I become a certificated doula in October 2020

I love being a doula, I like working with latino woman because I speak the same language and I share similar culture, values and belifs in childbirth, I have been serving women that are alone, scared or encountered many barriers, I have strongly advocated for them but I have also encouraged them to speak for themselves. I'm committed to support you during your pregnancy, birth and pospartum, I want to make sure you feel, loved, cared, comfortable and safe to have a pleasant childbirth experience.

My approach is: ''All women regarding of her race, deserved emotional and
physical care'

Hello! It’s been an honor to be a Doula

Hello/Boozhoo! My name is pronounced O-Ya- Tay! Which is Lakota, meaning the unity of the people or the people. You are getting ready for one of the biggest days of your life, and I am here to support you!.

I have been a Doula for over 12 years now. Initially, I got my training from DONA in Duluth, MN. I have experience with pregnancy and infant loss, special needs moms and babies, teen mothers, single mothers, VBAC, multiples, immigrant families, and a list of complications associated with pregnancy and postpartum.

Whether it be your first or fifth child; every woman deserves to be confident, nurtured, informed, and supported through their journey. That is my main priority with every one of my clients. Regardless of any background, race, sexuality, status, culture or belief. I approach my clients with individualized care determined by their needs. Educating from not only  evidence-based research, but also life experiences from myself and other mothers. About 3 years ago, I took being a Doula as full-time commitment and I haven’t looked

back since. In the time between, I was blessed with the opportunity to go to school and enter the nursing field. I got work at a variety of different hospitals and settings. My most favorite

places were both Children’s Hospital and Gillette Orthopedic Hospital. Despite how much I loved being there; that is where I realized I wanted to be a doula again. After that, I put myself back into training to re-certify myself as a Doula. My highest goal is becoming a Midwife one day.

Thank you/ Miigwech!

I’m bilingual Spanish-English speaking. My passion is to serve people. My gift to be a Doula comes from maternal grandmother, she was a Matrona (Doula).

Sadia

My journey as a doula is to assist in bringing amazing life into this world. Being part of this form of joy and encouraging and supporting a healthy pregnancy is truly a great privilege.

Hello! My name is Sadia, and I am a family educator at an organization and soon to be a doula. I’ve been a certified medical assistant for thirteen years. I am also certified in childhood development and soon to be in nutrition as well. I am a wife and a mother of six beautiful children—three boys and three girls. My journey into becoming a doula all began during my pregnancies, which all came with many complications that could have been avoided with the right medical attention. But what truly inspired me to initially take the steps into becoming a doula was what I had seen while working as a family educator. I had seen many soon-to-be mothers who were also minorities face the same challenges I had faced as a birthing person of color.

Through my shared experiences, I was able to help guide many of these soon-to-be mothers in their birthing process. While doing this, I started to believe that I could help make a difference and help many more expecting parents while advocating for better treatment for pregnant women of color and all in the medical system. I believe that as a doula, I can strive to help meet these goals for all by being there for expecting mothers when they have questions and guiding them through the good and bad during pregnancy.

Sydney

Sydney

My name is Sydney and I have been a birth and postpartum doula for almost four years. I truly believe the identity of the birthing person and family is central to their experience. As a trauma-informed doula, my role as birth support is to help you build a sense of agency and autonomy. I believe often what is required is for someone to sit and hold space through the intensity of your emotional journey; guiding and grounding you but also letting you lead. In addition to my doula work, I am a lactation educator and in the first year of graduate school to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a focus in perinatal mental health. I feel fortunate to be a part of this group of wonderful doulas and to serve the birthing families at HCMC!

Yaa

Yaa

I’m Yaa. My doula career began early and unofficially – I was there for my baby sister’s birth, from the time my mom’s water broke till she was born eight hours later. My mother jokingly told people that I was her doula … I guess I really was!

That experience was only the beginning. It sparked a passion for birth and supporting women that continues today. I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of her circumstance, needs support especially during childbirth. This belief guides the work I do at Everyday Miracles.

A Certified Doula through DONA, I did my doula training with Liz Abbene as part of the Doula Access Project. I have also worked as a breastfeeding counselor for the Hennepin County WIC program since 2009.

A wife and mother of four energetic sons, I have also worked as an elementary school teacher and a radio presenter. As a busy working mom, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, including 45 minutes of time to myself!
